The beauty universe has embraced the future, thanks in no small part to women like Michelle Phan. The 23-year-old former Floridian, who still has a year to go at Ringling College of Art and Design, uses her talent with brushes and pencils to create video makeup tutorials that attract millions of viewers to her YouTube channel. (One of her Lady Gaga how-to’s has garnered more than 10 million hits.) ‘‘I consider beauty another form of painting,’’ she says. ‘‘Color theory and understanding how the product works on a surface really helps me when I’m applying makeup.’’ These days, she has less time to paint: she was tapped to be the (talking) face of Lancôme as its official video makeup artist.
