<p>Increasing numbers of Americans are leaving their careers to become teachers. For some, it’s a chance to make a difference; for others, a job with summers off. Career-switchers most often get into the classroom through a process called alternate certification, so named because participants don’t follow the traditional path of majoring in education.</p>
