Spirit: A Retrospective
Launched in 2003 for what was to be a 90-day mission to explore the Red Planet, the Mars Exploration Rovers – Spirit and Opportunity – have exceeded their operational lives many times over. Spirit was launched in January 2004. During six years on Mars, the rovers have traversed section of the planet revealing hitherto unknown secrets and continue to expand humanity’s knowledge of one of Earth’s sister planets.
