One Room or a Mansion?
Not everyone can just up and move to Detroit simply because a 5,000-square-foot Tudor mansion there cost only $1,000 more than a 400-square-foot studio apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Even so, it can’t hurt to look. You never know when you might have to move because of a job. Here’s an idea of what $400,000 (or thereabouts) can fetch in various parts of the U.S.
