Magical Mystery Tour
In his two features, “Being John Malkovich” and “Adaptation,” and in dozens of music videos, the director Spike Jonze developed a distinctive strain of matter-of-fact surrealism in which the magical arises from the mundane. So it’s hardly a surprise that in tackling a film adaptation ofMaurice Sendak’s beloved picture book “Where the Wild Things Are,” Mr. Jonze’s guiding principle was naturalism.
