Fossils Shed New Light on Human Past

Researchers Thursday unveiled fossils from a 4.4-million-year-old human ancestor, dubbed Ardipithecus ramidus. Ardi’s remains, they say, reveal that the earliest human ancestors were more modern than many scholars assumed. The find deepens the evolutionary gulf separating humankind from apes and chimpanzees.
