FBI Most Wanted List turns 60
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is noting the 60th anniversary of its 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list. Founded on March 14, 1950, the list, as stated on the FBI’s Web site, was the byproduct of a 1949 International News Service reporter’s question: Who were the “toughest guys” the FBI was pursuing. The list has included bank robbers and radical political activists of the 1960s and ’70s – when the FBI used controversial strategies, such as Cointelpro – though today it is more likely to include terrorists, serial killers and drug traffickers. Here’s a selection of some of the most interesting (and notorious) members of the list throughout its history.
