Arranging the Art in Salon Style

When she traded her 2,000-square-foot home in Los Angeles for an 800-square-foot rental in Jersey City, Rachel Hudgins, a photographer, knew she needed to downsize. But she had no intention of parting with her fine-art photography collection — the question was how to make it work in her new space. The Times asked David Kassel, the owner of ILevel, an art installation and design consultancy in Manhattan, to help Ms. Hudgins transform her stairwell, which functions as an entry hall, into a salon-style gallery on her budget of $1,500.
